Mad About You, a romantic-comedy TV show about a married couple living in New York, aired for 7 years before ending in 1999. A limited-series revival show is set to premiere in November on Spectrum Originals. Both Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt will reprise their original roles as Paul and Jamie Buchman. While the revival takes place 20 years later, but here are 10 fun facts about the original TV show you may not know.
 

1. Rather than pursue a burgeoning movie career, Helen Hunt was convinced to join the show after reading the show’s script.

 

2. Towards the end of the show, Paul and Jamie had a daughter named Mabel, a very uncommon name in the 90s. The name was actually an acronym for “Mothers Always Bring Extra Love.”

 

3. In addition to being a main star on the show, Paul Reiser was also a co-creator and producer of Mad About You.

 

4. Lisa Kudrow of Friends fame played a waitress on Mad About You named Ursula. It later aligned that Ursula would become Phoebe Buffay’s identical twin sister on Friends. The character would become a crossover between the two popular 90s shows.

 

5. Jamie and Fran (her best friend) appeared on an episode of Friends where they mistook Phoebe for Ursula at Central Perk.

 

6. After Mad About You ended in 1999, Helen Hunt went on to have a successful acting career. She starred in multiple films including What Women Want alongside Mel Gibson and in Cast Away as Tom Hank’s wife.

 

7. Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser were paid equally for their work on the last season of Mad About You, a total of $1 million each per episode.

 

8. Mad About You had numerous guest stars over the course of the show, including Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Buscemi, Kevin Bacon, and Jerry Seinfeld.

 

9. Paul and Jamie’s dog, Murray, was actually a rescue dog in real life named Maui found by the animal trainer.

 

10. The last episode took place 22 years in the future with an adult Mabel making a documentary about her family.
